The Golden Lions secured first place at the TSU Big Blue Invitational

Old Hickory, TN. – Winning in style! With less than a week before the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golf team triumphed at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Tennessee State at Hermitage Golf Course.

The Golden Lions secured first place with a score of -4 under par (281, 283, 284 - 848) in a competitive field of 16 teams. Tennessee-Martin finished in second place with a score of -1 under par (288, 279, 284 - 851), while Southern Indiana in third with a score of +6 over par (288, 282, 288 - 858), followed by Florida A&M in fourth with a score of +10 over par (285, 286, 291-862), Eastern Illinois in fifth with a score of +14 over par (287, 291, 288-866), and Evansville rounded out the top sixth with a score of +18 over par (298, 288, 284-870).

The Golden Lions had four golfers finish in the top 11 out of 92 competitors, led by sophomore Jose Berenguel, who placed second overall with a remarkable score of -7 under par across three rounds (71, 67, 68 - 206). Sophomore Jules De Reu tied for fourth with an even-par score (70, 72, 71 - 213), and freshman Jonathan Baumann continued to make a strong case for Freshman of the Year, tying for sixth place with a score of +1 over par (67, 72, 75 - 214). Sophomore Timur Alalin also made it into the top 11, finishing with a score of +2 over par (73, 72, 73).

Freshman Juan Melida placed tied for 45th with a score of +11 over par (77, 72, 75 - 224).

The Golden Lions will look to carry the momentum from this week's victory into the defense of their SWAC title, which will take place from April 14-16 in Birmingham, Alabama.
