HOUSTON, Texas – UAPB Baseball put together a complete performance on Friday afternoon, blanking Texas Southern 4-0 in a dominant road win in the series opener at MacGregor Park.
The Golden Lions' pitching duo of Kenny Fabian and
Nate Monceaux was lights out. Fabian earned the win with six shutout innings, scattering four hits while striking out six. Monceaux slammed the door over the final three frames, allowing just two hits and fanning two to seal the shutout.
Eli Gries-Smith sparked the offense in the fourth with a solo shot over the fence—his first home run of the season—and later added a triple to finish 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. The bats came alive again in the fifth when
Darrius Brown doubled and scored on a sharp RBI single by
Jesus Riera, extending the lead to 2-0.
In the eighth, the Lions added insurance as Carlos Rodriguez delivered a clutch two-RBI single after hits from
Collin McLemore and
Gavin Terry loaded the bases. Rodriguez also swiped a bag to add pressure on the basepaths. Riera led the team with two hits.
