PINE BLUFF, AR - Jailah Pelly, Stephanie Okowi and D'Arrah Allen combined to score 50 of UAPB's 65 total points, but the Golden Lions fell to the Jackson State Tigers 74-65 at home Thursday.

Pelly led the Golden Lions with 21 points and five assists. Okowi tacked on a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Allen helped out with 14 points and seven assists.

UAPB utilized excellent ball movement in Thursday's game, piling up 19 assists on 26 made field goals. Allen's seven assists were the most for the Golden Lions.

How It Happened

After falling behind 13-11, UAPB went on a 5-0 run with 2:12 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Pelly, to take a 16-13 lead. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-17 advantage. UAPB did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 18 points close to the basket.

Jackson State rallied to take a 27-20 lead before UAPB went on a 7-0 run starting at the 5:17 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Briontanay Marshall, to tie the game at 27. Neither team was able to gain an edge by halftime, as the two squads entered the break tied at 29-29. UAPB dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.

Jackson State proceeded to take over in the third quarter and the Golden Lions entered the fourth trailing 58-52. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 23 points in the paint.

UAPB could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 74-65. UAPB got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring four fast break points.
