#UAPBWomens falls to Alcorn State on Senior Night

PINE BLUFF, AR - The UAPB women's basketball team went into the half beating Alcorn State 33-32, but could not hang on in the second half and fell 70-59 to the Braves at home Saturday.

The Golden Lions had two players score in double figures, led by D'Arrah Allen, who had 20 points. Stephanie Okowi tacked on 13 points and two steals and Jailah Pelly added seven points and two steals.

The UAPB offense was strong from beyond the arc, pouring in nine threes on 20 attempts. Allen hit four treys for the Golden Lions in the contest.

UAPB forced 13 Alcorn State turnovers. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into nine points on the other end of the floor. Okowi's two steals led the way for UAPB.

How It Happened

UAPB struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-9 at the end of the first quarter.

UAPB then cut the Braves lead to 26-13 before going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a three from Allen, to narrow its deficit to 26-21. The Golden Lions kept the rally going and overtook the Braves on a three from Allen with 00:00 left for a 33-32 halftime advantage. UAPB was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 24 points.

UAPB then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Braves 53-43 entering the fourth. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 10 points in the paint.

UAPB came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Nadiyah Byard's layup, to shrink the deficit to 53-48 with 8:26 to go in the contest. Alcorn State responded and outscored the Golden Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-59. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
