PINE BLUFF, AR --Quion Williams, Trevon Payton and Anthony Sellars each notched at least 20 points to help lead the UAPB men's basketball team over the 114-64 at home Monday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.Â
The Golden Lions had five players score in double figures, led by Williams, who secured a double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Payton tacked on 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals and Sellars helped out with 20 points off the bench.
Williams pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace the UAPB offense which grabbed 18 boards and turned them into 19 second chance points.
The UAPB defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 26 turnovers while committing 19. Those takeaways turned into 36 points on the other end of the floor. Williams' six steals led the way individually for the Golden Lions.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 32-23 advantage, UAPB went on a 10-0 run with 7:36 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Williams, to increase its lead to 42-23. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 47-38 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 47 points.
UAPB started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 15-0 run, finished off by Williams' layup, to grow the lead to 62-38 with 14:10 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 114-64 win. UAPB took care of business in the paint, recording 38 of its 67 points in the lane.
