PINE BLUFF, AR.- Behind a crushing defensive showing that limited Southern University to just 74 rushing yards, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions rolled to an impressive 40–21 victory over the Jaguars Saturday afternoon at Simmons Bank Field.
Quarterback Christian Peters led the charge, throwing for 231 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding 43 yards and a rushing score on the ground.
Running back Jaylen Jennings anchored the UAPB rushing attack with 99 yards and one touchdown, helping the Golden Lions control the tempo throughout the afternoon.
Through the air, Ellis Stewart was Peters' top target, finishing with four catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns, while D'Avery Robinson added six receptions for 75 yards. Kareem Burke also contributed 54 yards receiving to round out a balanced passing effort.
Defensively, the Golden Lions were dominant. Azayvonne Stribling snagged an interception, Kj Sims recovered a fumble, and Danarius Hilliard led the unit with 10 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and one sack. UAPB's defense forced two turnovers that directly led to 14 points, holding Southern to just 296 total yards.
How It Happened
UAPB wasted no time seizing control, scoring on the opening drive to go up 7–0. After Southern tied the game at 7–7, the Golden Lions quickly regained the lead with a 20-yard rushing touchdown to make it 14–7.
From there, UAPB poured it on — adding field goals and touchdowns to stretch the margin to 24–7 at halftime. The momentum continued into the second half as the Golden Lions built a commanding 38–7 lead with 10:02 left in the third quarter. Southern managed two late scores, but the outcome was never in doubt as UAPB secured the 40–21 victory.
