Daytona Beach, FL. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions dropped a 31-14 decision to Bethune-Cookman Saturday afternoon at Daytona Stadium.
The Wildcats improved to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Lions slipped to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in league action.
Offensive Highlights
Jaylen Jennings led UAPB's ground game, rushing for 41 yards and one touchdown, while quarterback Christian Peters added 34 rushing yards and contributed through the air.
Ellis Stewart was the top target in the passing game, hauling in four receptions for 56 yards as the Golden Lions outgained Bethune-Cookman through the air 185 to 170.
Defensive Standouts
The Golden Lion defense delivered another solid effort, holding the Wildcats under 200 passing yards.
Danarius Hilliard anchored the defensive unit with 10 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Vaughn Highland added four tackles and a tackle for loss, while Kam Coleman and the front line kept consistent pressure throughout the contest.
UAPB's defense totaled nine tackles for loss and two sacks on the day.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-0 early, UAPB evened the score at 7-7 with 3:15 remaining in the second quarter. Bethune-Cookman responded with consecutive touchdowns to take a 21-7 advantage before the Golden Lions struck again to cut the deficit to 21-14.
Despite several strong defensive series in the second half, UAPB was unable to find the end zone again as the Wildcats added 10 more points to seal the 31-14 victory.
