PINE BLUFF, AR. - Grambling mounted an 11-play, 65-yard drive, culminating in a three-yard rushing touchdown from with 1:42 remaining in the ballgame, as UAPB lost 20-16 in heartbreaking fashion to the Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Simmons Bank Field.
The Tigers improved to 4-3 on the year and 1-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Lions fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference matchups.
Christian Peters led UAPB's passing attack with 204 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown and three interceptions. The signal caller also added 84 yards on the ground.
In addition to Peters' effort, Jaylen Jennings paced the Golden Lions rushing attack by accumulating 33 yards over the course of the game.
Peters' most prolific target in the ballgame was Jordan Jackson, who caught three passes for 99 yards.
Danarius Hilliard showed out for the UAPB defense, recording six tackles, 1.0 TFL, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble. Isaiah Jones added three tackles and one recovered fumble and Amyrion Mingo had one interception in the loss.
Both UAPB and Grambling forced three turnovers in Saturday's contest, with UAPB turning those takeaways into three points.
UAPB's defense held up against Grambling's offense, allowing 300 total yards.
How It Happened
UAPB scored first and jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 4:44 left in the first quarter.Grambling then scored to take a 14-7 lead before the Golden Lions put a field goal on the board to narrow the gap and make it a 14-10 game.
UAPB scored again with 10:30 remaining in the fourth quarter to narrow the deficit to 14-13.The Golden Lions then kept the momentum going with a 20-yard field goal from to take a 16-14 lead. UAPB didn't score again in the game and Grambling tacked on six more points to finish off the scoring.
