#UAPBSoftball: Lady Lions Split The Last Two Matchups On Day One Of The Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic

Game 2: UAPB 7    Mid-American Christian 1

Kayla Adams was dominant on Friday, punching out 14 Mid-America Christian hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the UAPB Lady Lions over the Evangels 7-1 in game two of the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic. 

In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Adams, Tulsa, Oklahoma native tossed seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and walking one for UAPB.

At the plate, the Lady Lions were paced by Samaria Jackson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI. Ariana Gonzalez put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with two RBI. Shalin Charles also helped out for UAPB, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. UAPB scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Gonzalez.

The Evangels failed to push any runs across before the Lady Lions offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The UAPB offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Jackson, which brought the score to 7-1 in favor of the Lady Lions. The score remained 7-1 for the rest of the game, as UAPB coasted to the win.

GAME NOTES

» Charles picked up three base hits in the game for UAPB.
» Adams struck out 14 Evangels hitters.
» UAPB's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed four runs across.
» The Lady Lions out-hit the Evangels at a 12-5 clip.
» Justice  Walton stole two bases in Friday's game.
» UAPB pitchers faced 27 Mid-America Christian hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and three fly balls while striking out 14.
» Jackson led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.



 

Game Two: Texas Wesleyan 9   UAPB  8 

The Lady Lions fell 9-8 in an eight-inning matchup to the Texas Wesleyan Rams Friday.

Lauryn Adams led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and two RBI. Jada Carhee compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Justice Walton also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for UAPB with a triple.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. UAPB scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from Adams.

The Rams then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Lady Lions got back on the board in the fourth. Layla Stouder came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Rams.

UAPB held the Rams off the board before rallying to even it up at four in the fifth.

The Rams broke the tie and took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when UAPB got back on the scoreboard. The Lady Lions scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Carhee, bringing the UAPB advantage to 8-6. The Lady Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Texas Wesleyan scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 9-8 win.
