#UAPBSoftball: Lady Lions Split Doubleheader

Game 1:  Texas Wesleyan 4   UAPB  3

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --
Kayla Adams got the ball to start for UAPB (6-6) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out five.

At the plate, the Lady Lions were paced by Shalin Charles, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Amari Broughton compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Lauryn Adams also chipped in for UAPB, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions were trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Freshman Samaria Jackson's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for UAPB.

The Rams expanded their lead to 4-2 before the Lady Lions offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. UAPB pushed across a run on Charles' two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Rams. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES

» UAPB's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed two runs across.

Game 2:  UAPB 9     Langston 0 

Danika Bryant was dealing on Saturday, tossing a four-hit shutout to lead the UAPB Lady Lions past the Langston Lions 9-0.

Bryant went the distance for UAPB, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Jada Carhee led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a triple, a walk and two RBI. Gabriella Belyeu provided a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Freshman Malani Francis also contributed, going 2-for-4 for UAPB with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. UAPB scored twice, with one run coming across on Amari Broughton's single.

The Lady Lions then tacked on runs in the fourth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the seventh when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a one-run single off the bat of Jasmine Carlson.
