#UAPBSoftball: Golden Lions Split on Day Two of Capital City Classic

Game 1:  UAPB vs Mississippi Valley St. 
 

JACKSON, MS --Kayla Adams was dominant on Sunday, fanning 14 Mississippi Valley State hitters over seven innings of work to help power the UAPB Lady Lions over the Delta Devilettes 3-1.

In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Adams tossed seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and walking none for UAPB.

At the plate, the Lady Lions were led by Jada Carhee, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk. Amari Broughton furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Mississippi Valley State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Lady Lions still held on for the 3-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» Adams struck out 14 Delta Devilettes hitters.

Game 2: UAPB vs Jackson St. 

Danika Bryant had everything working on Sunday, striking out nine Jackson State hitters over 5.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the UAPB Lady Lions lost to the Tigers 8-2.

In addition to her nine strikeouts, Bryant went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits and walking one for UAPB.

Samaria Jackson led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Jazlyn Gomez put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Tyrah Elerby also contributed, going 2-for-3 for UAPB.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Jackson put UAPB on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Kelley Bickers.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 5-1 before the Lady Lions offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. UAPB scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Gomez, which tightened the Tigers lead to 5-2. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as Jackson State added three runs to their tally on the way to an 8-2 final.
