LORMAN, MS --The UAPB volleyball team got the job done in three sets (25-8, 25-14, 25-19) to defeat the Alcorn State Lady Braves Friday on the road at Davey L Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex.
The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Zykia Jones, who registered 13 kills and 16 digs on the day. Laila Fortson also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Samantha Newman chipped in for with 16 digs to go with two blocks from Marlina Anderson.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Lions grabbed control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-8. UAPB led by as many as 17 points at 24-7 before finishing off the set. UAPB also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | UAPB continued to roll after a set-one win by securing a 25-14 victory in set number two. The Lady Lions never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased two lead changes before UAPB took over the lead. The UAPB offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | UAPB took the third set to win in straight sets. The Lady Lions led from the opening point on in the set to earn a 25-19 victory. UAPB opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 18-7 before closing out the set, totaling 15 kills in the process.
