ITTA BENA, Mississippi -- UAPB put together an explosive 234-yard output on the ground, including 108 yards from Kierstan Rogers, but fell 42-17 to Mississippi Valley State Saturday afternoon on the road at Rice-Totten Stadium.
Chancellor Edwards led UAPB's passing attack with 72 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
Rogers led all Golden Lions rushers in the contest, picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Jalen Macon also added 54 yards on the ground, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
Kenji Lewis reeled in three catches for 62 yards and one score.
Rylan Woods led the UAPB defensive effort, totaling tackles and 0.5 TFL. Isaiah Ward added 1.0 TFL and one sack.
UAPB had a strong performance on the ground, gaining 234 rushing yards while averaging 6.5 yards per carry and out-rushing Mississippi Valley State by 85 yards.
Defensively, UAPB held up fairly well against the Mississippi Valley State rushing attack, holding the Delta Devils to 149 yards on the ground.
How It Happened
After Mississippi Valley State opened a 7-0 lead, the Golden Lions responded with 12:51 remaining in the second quarter to narrow the margin to 7-3.The Golden Lions responded with a touchdown after Mississippi Valley State increased its lead to 14-3 to make it a 14-10 game.
The Delta Devils increase their lead to 35-10 before UAPB responded with 5:14 left in the fourth quarter and narrowed the gap to 35-17. Mississippi Valley State added seven more points to seal the win.
The Golden Lions will be back in action when they host Alcorn St. for homecoming, Saturday, October 21 at Simmons Bank Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
