#UAPBSoccer: Tiana Johnson Leads Lady Lions Past Jarvis Christian

HAWKINS, TX – The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff got a hat trick from freshman Tiana Johnson in a 9-1 win over Jarvis Christian Tuesday in non-conference action on the road at Jarvis Soccer Complex.

Johnson had a huge day for UAPB, notching three goals while adding an assist for a team-leading seven points.

The win improved the Lady Lions record to 4-5-0 overall. UAPB finished the contest with a 32-11 edge in shots and outpaced the Bulldogs 20-8 in shots on goals.

Sophomore Iyanah Hicks opened the scoring in the first 23 seconds of the game with the assist by Johnson to give UAPB a 1-0 lead. Sophomore SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Natalie Freeman gave UAPB their second goal of the game to take a 2-0 lead with an assist by senior Kaitlyn Hapke in the 11th minute in the first half.

UAPB would increase their lead 3-0 at the 14th-minute mark when Johnson scored her first goal of the game.

Six minutes later, at the 18th-minute mark, Freeman fired a shot from close range over the Bulldogs goalkeeper head to give UAPB a 4-0 lead for her second goal of the game.

Freshman Ashley McGuire registered the first goal of her collegiate career at the 37th-minute mark to give UAPB a 5-0 lead before the half.

In the second half, Johnson tacked on UAPB lead (7-0), scoring two consecutive goals at the 50th and 53rd-minute mark.

McGuire punched her second goal in the 60th minute, smashing home a strike with venom lower-left inside the area to make it 8-0. Freshman Denisse Quintanilla scored her first goal of the season at the 87th-minute mark to wrap up the victory for UAPB.

Both goalies, sophomore Taylor Schumacher and freshman Makaila Riedel played an excellent game, holding the Bulldogs one goal and finishing the match with seven saves.

UAPB will set its sights on Williams Baptist College as they travel to Walnut Ridge, AR., on Thursday, September 15 at 4 p.m.
