Itching to get back on the field, the time has finally arrived for UAPB football as they will kick off their 2021 season on Saturday against Lane College at 6 p.m. at Simmons Bank Field. 

After a historical spring season going undefeated in regular-season play since 1937, the Golden Lions are looking to defend their SWAC Western Division Championship belt this season. 

Last season, UAPB made it to the SWAC Championship for the first since 2012 but left with a disappointing taste, unfortunately dropping the title game to Alabama A&M, but since then, UAPB has had tunnel vision and has been in the lab working day-in and day-out.

SWAC PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE 
The historical spring season landed ten Golden Lion student-athletes to the Preseason SWAC All-Conference team. First Team Preseason SWAC All-Conference selections include FCS All American RS Tyrin Ralph, OL Mark Evans II, WR Josh Wilkes, LB Kolby Watts, and DB Jalon Thigpen, who led the Golden Lions defense in the spring.

Second Team selections include QB Skyler Perry, OLs Atnondre Smith and Noah Hayes, LB Isaac Peppers, and kicker Zack Piwnickzka.

Second-year UAPB head coach Doc Gamble is excited for his guys on the gridiron this weekend for the first time since May. "Everybody has to play hard but play together," said Gamble. 

Gates will open at 4 p.m., and the game will kick off at 6 p.m. CDC guidelines will be in effect, and masks will be required as well as a clear bag policy. The game will be streamed live on UAPB Sports Network or on the free UAPB Athletics app or you can listen live on 99.3 FM The Beat.
