Pine Bluff, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped two games in Sunday's doubleheader against North Texas at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex. The Lady Lions fell to North Texas 3-0 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
GAME ONE: NORTH TEXAS 3 UAPB 0
With a defensive battle with both teams throughout the game, North Texas struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning, which would be the only runs of the game to win game one.
Junior Shakeidria Hubbard got the loss on the mound, pitching a complete game going 7.0 IP, with four strikeouts for the Lady Lions.
GAME ONE: NORTH TEXAS 5 UAPB 2
North Texas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first four innings of game two before the Lady Lions responded when freshman Samaria Jackson grounded out, scoring senior Shanice Akins, who reached earlier with a double to right-center to cut the Mean Green lead to four, (5-1).
Jackson would come up big in the bottom of the sixth, with a single up the middle cutting North Texas lead to three (5-2), but it was not enough in the comeback.
Jackson led the Lady Lions at the plate going 1-for-3 with two RBIs, followed by Akins going 2-for-3.
UAPB will be back in action to wrap up the three-game series Monday at 1 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
