Pine Bluff, AR – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball dropped a pair of conference games on Tuesday against Jackson State at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex after an 8-2 win on Monday.
GAME 1: 4 JSU UAPB 1
The Lady Lions played great defense throughout game two. At the top of the second inning, the Lady Tigers scored their first run to take a (1-0) lead.
Neither team was able to get on the board until the top of the sixth inning with bases loaded and the Lady Tigers were able to manage only one run to take a (2-0) lead. The Lady Tigers scored two more runs at the top of the seventh to push their lead (4-0).
UAPB was able to cut into Jackson St. lead (4-1) in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jasmine Carlson doubled to left center, scoring Desiree Bumpers, who reached earlier with a double down the right-field line, but it was not enough in the comeback.
UAPB finished the game with four hits, led by Carlson going (1-for-3) with one RBI, followed by Samaria Jackson (1-for-3), Shanice Akins (1-for-2), and Bumpers going (1-for-2).
GAME 7 JSU UAPB 1
In game three, Jackson St. got off to a fast start, scoring six runs in the first three innings.
UAPB responded in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Felicia Drake single, scoring Anne Gerwitz, who reached on base earlier with a single, cutting the Lady Tigers lead to five (6-1).
The Lady Lions had their chances as the game went on, but the Lady Tigers were able to hold on to win the series 2-1.
Drake led UAPB at the plate, going 1-for-1 with an RBI, followed by Gerwitz going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
UAPB will bounce back and return to action next weekend at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex in a three-game series against Prairie View A&M. First pitch is set for Friday, April 2 at 3 p.m.
