HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team led for most of the game, but lost the lead late in a 56-55 defeat at Alabama A&M Monday night.
The Golden Lions (3-16, 2-7 SWAC) had three players score in double figures, led by
Dequan Morris, who had 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Shaun Doss Jr. added 11 points and four rebounds, and
Terrance Banyard scored 10 points with four rebounds.
UAPB started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run to take an early lead with 16:55 left in the first half. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 25-21 advantage.
UAPB kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by
Markedric Bell's three, to grow the lead to 34-25 with 15:51 to go in the contest.
However, Alabama A&M chipped away to take the lead and led to three ties in the final five minutes, the last time at 52-52 with 1:40 to play on a pair of Doss free throws.
Following a AAMU basket, Doss drilled a three-pointer with 53 seconds to play to give the Golden Lions a 55-54 lead.
However, an Alabama A&M basket with 20 seconds to play gave AAMU the lead for good, as UAPB could not convert on its final two possessions of the game.
