#UAPBWomensHoops Extend Win Streak; Defeats Tulane In Holiday Tournament

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team held on late to defeat Tulane on Saturday afternoon at the Miami Holiday Classic by a score of 79-74.

The Lady Lions' starting five all filled the scoring column with double figures, led by Zaay Green who had 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Khadijah Brown, with her fourth double-double of the season, finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Sade Hudson finished with 12 points, and Joyce Kennerson and Maya Peat finished with 10 points apiece.

The Lady Lions got off to a hot start with an early 7-2 lead over with 6:44 remaining in the first quarter.

Later in the second quarter, Green scored six straight points to cap off an 8-3 run that gave the Lady Lions a 32-25 lead with nearly a minute left in the half.

UAPB held a 36-28 lead at halftime before going on a 12-2 run to open the third quarter, extending their lead out to 47-30.

Tulane cut the Lady Lions lead down to 55-51 at the end of the third quarter.

Trading baskets throughout the final quarter, UAPB trailed for the first time in the game 69-66 with 4:18 remaining in the game.

To secure the win, Peat and Kennerson would then combine for eight points to drive the Lady Lions to an 11-0 run, leading 77-69 with 1:16 left in regulation.

The Lady Lions are on a four-game win streak for the first time in head coach Dawn Thornton's era at UAPB.

"This group is relentless," said head coach Dawn Thornton following the win. "I'm really proud of what this group can accomplish together, as one. They want to make history, and beating a team like Tulane is one step in the right direction."

The Lady Lions return to action Monday at noon against Miami in their final game of the tournament.
