#UAPBVolleyball Dominates Southern; Advance In SWAC Tournament

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff advanced to their second straight semifinal appearance after a 3-1 win over Southern on Friday afternoon, in the first round of the 2021 SWAC Tournament.

Four Lady Lions had double-digits in kills, led by Jayden James who had a game-high 15 kills. Kaila Robinson followed with 14 kills, Destiny Thomas added 11 kills, and Zyonn Smith had 10 kills against Southern. 

Defensively, Haley Gomez had a game-high of six blocks to pace UAPB.

Nikole Akamine and Vanessa Collins combined for 50 of the team's 57 assists, Akamine leading with a game-high 26 and Collins added 24 assists to the total.

Nyah Ellis led with a game-high 20 digs in the match.

The Lady Lions will face Florida A&M in the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament with a trip to the championship game on the line. 

The match will begin at 4 p.m.
