The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team came out aggressive against Little Rock but fell late in the game 73-63.
Joyce Kennerson scored the first five points for the Lady Lions to give them an early 5-0 lead. Both teams traded baskets back and forth before Little Rock went ahead 20-13 at the start of the second period.
UAPB slowed up offensively at the beginning of the second quarter but were able to close out the quarter on 5-0 to trail 41-28 at halftime.
The Lady Lions quickly cut the deficit 41-35 at the beginning of the second half behind five points from Khadijah Brown that sparked a 7-0 run.
After a few scores by Little Rock, UAPB went on a 9-2 run to end the third quarter, trailing 54-46. The Lady Lions outscored Little Rock 18-13 in the period, gaining a momentum boost heading into the fourth quarter.
UAPB stayed within 10 points of Little Rock and cut it to as close as 70-63, but the comeback fell short down the stretch.
The Lady Lions had four players in double figures, led by Brown who flirted with a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing nine boards.
Tyeisha Juhan and Zaay Green both chipped in with 12 points apiece, and Sade Hudson added 10 points for her third straight double-digit game.
