#UAPBWomensHoops Grab First Win Of The Season Over Southern Miss 76-57

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team came out on top against Southern Miss 76-57 to capture their first win of the season.

The Lady Lions dominated offensively throughout the entire game, shooting a season-high 48.2 percent from the field.

Khadijah Brown got hot early in the game for the Lady Lions, scoring six of their first 10 points. The Lady Lions led 18-17 at the end of the first quarter after a three-pointer made by Bryana Langford.

A much slower start in the second quarter for both teams resulted in a 30-30 knot at the halftime break.

However, UAPB wasted no time getting it going in the third quarter as they scored the first 12 points of the half, giving them a commanding 42-30 lead. Sade Hudson had the hot hand for the Lady Lions, scoring 12 of the team's 21 third-quarter points.

Southern Miss chipped down on the lead trailing 51-47 at the end of the third quarter, but it was Lady Lions who outscored their opponent 25-10 in the final quarter to seal the victory.

"We wanted not only to represent this team but represent this conference coming into the tournament," head coach Dawn Thornton said after the win. "These ladies continue to show toughness, and a team is supposed to look. We've been talking about getting a team win, and I believe we came out and executed well."

The Lady Lions had four players in double figures, led by Hudson, who finished with a season-high 21 points. Zaay Green, in just her second game of the season, flirted with a triple-double with 17 points, nine boards, and six assists.

Brown, with her second double-double of the season, scored 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds, and Joyce Kennerson chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Hudson has scored in double figures in every game this season for the Lady Lions.

"She's a winner," Thornton on Hudson's performance. "She understands the pace and flow of the game, and she's stepped up big as a facilitator and playmaker for this team."

UAPB will face Southeast Missouri State at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27th for their final game of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic.
