The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team clinched their first conference game on the road against Alcorn St. 2-0 at Spinks-Casem Soccer Stadium. The Lady Lions magic number is "two road wins" this weekend in order to qualify for the SWAC Championship Tournament.  

During the first half of play, the Lady Lions got out to a strong start scoring the first goal at the one-minute mark by freshman Jackie Stokes to take a 1-0 lead over Alcorn St. The Lady Braves were not able to respond as UAPB defense stepped up and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

During the second half of play, both teams battled back and forth until UAPB's Halley Wheeler scored a corner kick for the Lady Lions at the 68-minute mark after an assist from Stokes to hold their lead (2-0). The Lady Lion's defense was able to lock the Lady Braves down in the second half of the game for the shutout.

Stokes led the team with an impressive goal to start out the game, seven shots, and five shots on goal.

"I was really proud of us, collectively we played a great game, I thought we defended very well and we are ready to take care of business for our next big game," said Head Coach Erik Solberg.

The Lady Lions will head to Itta Bena, MS to finish their two-game road trip against Mississippi Valley St. today at 1 PM.
