The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team split a pair of games in the SWAC Cluster One held at Jackson State University.
To open the cluster, the Lady Lions swept Alabama A&M 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-9).
UAPB was led in kills by Kori Diego with a game-high 10 kills. Zykia Jones added to the kill total with seven kills.
Diego also led the way defensively with four blocks in the match for the Lady Lions. Zyonn Smith finished with 11 digs to the lead UAPB. Nikole Akamine led the team in assists with 16 assists.Â
The sweep over Alabama A&M tied a school record for most consecutive wins in a season with five straight wins.
Following the first game, the Lady Lions fell short in a heartbreaker to Jackson State 3-1 (23-25, 13-25, 25-14, 19-25).
Smith led the way in the second game with 10 kills in the match. Destiny Thomas and Diego both added eight kills apiece to the total.
Nyah Ellis finished with a game-high 25 digs in the match. UAPB was led in assist by Vanessa Collins with 15 assists, and Akamine followed with 14 assists.
The Lady Lions close out the cluster facing Mississippi Valley State on Oct. 10, at 11 a.m.
