The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team lost at home to Alabama St. 87-79 Saturday in the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
The Lady Lions (2-6, 1-1 SWAC) had three players score in double figures, led by Kaila Walker, who had 20 points with five rebounds and three steals. Khadijah Brown posted her second straight double-double and fourth this season with 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Jazzeem Bethea added 10 points and three steals off of the bench.

Led by Brown's eight offensive rebounds, UAPB did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 24 boards that resulted in 19 second chance points.

The UAPB defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 26 Alabama State turnovers while committing 17. Those takeaways turned into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor. Walker's three steals led the way individually for the Lady Lions.
 
Trailing late in the first half, UAPB went on an 8-0 run to narrow its deficit to 42-36 at halftime.

The Lady Lions came out of halftime on fire, going on an 11-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Bethea, to grab a 47-42 lead with 6:20 to go in the third. However, Alabama State responded to seize a 60-57 lead entering the fourth quarter and never trailed again.

The Lady Lions return to action on Monday hosting Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. in the H.O. Clemmons Arena. No fans will be admitted into the game due to coronavirus concerns.
