BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team lost at Southern, 67-57, Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions (2-8, 1-3 SWAC) had two players score in double figures, led by
Khadijah Brown, who had 15 points and eight rebounds.
Ashlynn Green added 11 points off the bench, and
Trasity Totten added eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
UAPB shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 12 assists on 21 made field goals. Individually,
Kaila Walker dished out four Lady Lions' assists.
UAPB's defense held Southern to only 35.6% shooting from the field, including 14.3% from beyond the arc.
After falling behind 12-6, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 3:25 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 12. Southern then pulled ahead, sending the Lady Lions into the second quarter down 18-14.
Southern kept adding to that lead, building a 28-22 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Marquita Cotton, to narrow its deficit to 28-27 and trailed 33-32 at halftime.
However, an early third-quarter run gave Southern a double-dight advantage it would not relinquish.
