Lafayette, La. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team fell to Ball St. 8-2 Sunday in McNeese St. Tournament held at Lamson Park on Sunday.
Both teams went scoreless the first two innings before UAPB took advantage of Ball St. struggles on the mound in the top of the third inning. Akins started the rally when she walked, and freshman Samaria Jackson was hit by a pitch, advancing Akins to second. The Cardinals would go on to walk the next three batters scoring Akins and Jackson to give UAPB a 2-0 lead.
Ball St would respond, scoring eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the final margin.
Freshman Patt Makenna and Akins each had one hit apiece, along with freshman Desiree Bumpers and sophomore Natalie Rogers collected one RBI apiece for UAPB.
The Lady Lions will be back in action Friday, against Northwestern St. Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m. and Murray St. at 5:30 p.m. for the Lady Demon Classic hosted by Northwestern St. in Natchitoches, LA.
