Natchitoches, La. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team began competition at the Lady Demon Classic in the Lady Demon Diamond. The Lady Lions dropped game one to Northwestern St. 10-1 and fell in game two to Murray St. 11-3.
 

Game 1: Northwestern St. 10 UAPB 1

Northwestern broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third inning and the fourth inning to defeat the Lady Lions in game one. 

The Lady Lions scored in the top of the fourth inning with a single by sophomore Felicia Drake scoring senior Shanice Akins, who got on earlier with a walk.  

Drake led the Lady Lions at the plate going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore Desiree Bumpers and junior Alyssa Wesley added one hit apiece.

Game 2: Murray St. 11 UAPB 3

Game two got off to a fast start as the Lady Lions struck first in the top of the first inning when sophomore Natalie Rogers and senior Akins had back to back walks. Freshman Samaria Jackson singled, advancing Rogers and Akins to second and third. Rogers would give the Lady Lions a 1-0 with an RBI by junior Leslie Arreola. 

The Golden Lions would go up 2-0 when Akins would score off an error by the first baseman.  

The Racers responded by adding five runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Lady Lions would cut the lead to 5-3 in the top of the second inning when sophomore Faith Santa Cruz would reach on an error and scored off a triple by Akins.

The Racers would add six more runs in the last five innings to capture game two. 

Akins led the Lady Lions at the plate going 2-for-3 with one RBI, followed by Arreola going 1-for-3 with a double.  UAPB continues the Lady Demon Classic tomorrow with repeat games against Northwestern St. at 11 a.m. and Murray St. at 4 p.m.
