LAFAYETTE, LA. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped two games on Saturday at Lamson Park. The Lady Lions fell to North Texas, 15-4 and Texas San Antonio 9-0 on day two of the McNeese St. Tournament.
GAME ONE: NORTH TEXAS 15, UAPB 4
Conference-USA foe North Texas got off to a fast start, scoring ten runs in the first two innings against UAPB. The Lady Lions would respond with a two-run home run by freshman Samara Jackson deep center field cut the Mean Green lead to 10-2 in the top of the fourth.
North Texas would add on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth before UAPB would put up two more runs with a sac fly RBI by senior Alyssa Wesley, scoring freshman Jasmine Carlson. Senior Sha'terricka Benard, hit a single up the middle, scoring junior Deeanna Harington before North Texas would clinch the win in game one.
Jackson led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs, followed by senior Shanice Akins, Benard, and Carlson, who collected one hit apiece.
GAME TWO: UTSA 9, UAPB 0
Texas-San Antonio struck first, scoring four runs in the top of the first.
UTSA would put up one more run in the sixth and four in the seventh inning for the win in game two. Benard, sophomore Felicia Drake, freshman Makenna Patt, and Wesley collected one hit apiece for the Lady Lions.
The Lady Lions will be back in action the McNeese St. Tournament Sunday against Ball St. in Lafayette, Louisiana, at 9 a.m.
