Women’s Basketball Falls To Jackson St.

PINE BLUFF, AR -- PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell 56-44 to the Jackson State Tigers at home Monday.

Jayla Atmore scored 12 points and made five steals to lead UAPB. Kyeonia Harris chipped in with nine points and four steals, and Noe'll Taylor had seven points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

After falling behind 2-0, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 8:41 left in the first quarter to take a 6-2 lead, before the Lady Lions ended the first quarter with a 14-12 lead.

Both teams traded baskets before Jackson St. went on a run and took a 36-28 lead at the break.

The Lady Tigers took advantage of the paint outscoring the Lady Lions 40-26. UAPB held Jackson St. to eight points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough in the comeback.

"We didn't do a good job of taking advantage of creating good shots," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown. "I would also like to give credit to our defense on holding the number one team to only eight points in the fourth quarter. They did a good job playing the post, but we'll go into the lab and get better."

The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they host Alabama A&M St. at 5 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
