Senior Noe'll Taylor scored a game-high 22 points, and senior Aiya El Hassan added 15, but the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 65-52 at home Saturday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a fast start in the first half and went into intermission with a double-digit lead 39-19 at the half.
In the second-half, UAPB responded after being down as many as 24 points. The Lady Lions narrowed its deficit to 54-35 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Taylor's layup, to shrink the deficit to 54-41 with 4:37 to go in the contest. The Lady Lions were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 21 points in the paint.
"We didn't have the focus we needed tonight, said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown. "We missed a lot of free-throws that hurt us down the stretch. In the second-half we wanted to do some things different coming out the half. We played some younger players because our starters weren't focused and they responded well. We have to play better as a team."
The Golden Lions will face off against Alabama St. Monday for Meet The Spring Teams Night at 5:30 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
