The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team fell 49-45 to Jackson St. Tigers at home Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Golden Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Junior Dequan Morris, who had 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior Markedric Bell tacked on 10 points, and junior Terrance Banyard added eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
The Golden Lions started the game well and jumped out to a 23-12 lead with a three-pointer by Bell with 5:53 left in the first half. Jackson St. would respond and go on 13-4 run before going into intermission down 27-25.
With the game tied at 43-43 with less than a minute left to play, the Tigers scored the go-ahead basket to sneak away with the win.
"I thought we played good overall, and I thought we gave up some easy shots," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. "One thing that's been hurting us all year has been free throws. We have to do a better job of hitting those easy shots. We were glad to have Bell back in the lineup. He gave us a lot of energy tonight and contributed some key points tonight."
The Golden Lions return to action Saturday when they host Alabama A&M St. at 7:30 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
