CONWAY, Ark.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team stretch of four games in two days began Friday in the UCA Michelle Short Memorial Classic at Farris Field. The Lady Lions fell to Jackson St. 13-3 in game one and lost 21-2 against Central Arkansas.
GAME 1: Jackson St. 13 UAPB 3
The Lady Tigers jumped out to fast start in the first inning, scoring five runs. UAPB cut the lead to four at 5-1 when the Lady Tigers committed back to back walks, putting seniors Sha'terrika Benard and Anne Gerwitz on second and first. Senior Shanice Akins came through with a single up the middle scoring Benard. Â
Jackson managed to add six runs in the top of the third and two in the top of the fourth inning before the Lady Lions would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore Natalie Rogers singled to right field, followed by a two-run home run by Gerwitz.Â
Gerwitz led the Lady Lions at the plate going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBIs and Akins going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Â
GAME 2: Central Arkansas 21 UAPB 2
UAPB got on the scoreboard first when Gerwitz singled up the middle and scored when Akins lined a triple down left field give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. Â
The Bears managed to put the game away early for the win in game two. Â
Gerwitz registered  a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and sophomore Felicia Drake added a hit, going 1-for-3 with one RBI.
