-- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell at Southern 85-61 Saturday.
Aiya El Hassan collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Lions, who had three players score in double figures.
Katherine Darden added 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench and
Tyler Pyburn chipped in as well with 13 points and two steals.
UAPB outrebounded Southern 39-31, and had 13 points off of 15 offensive rebounds.
After a slow start, UAPB cut the Lady Jaguars lead to 21-12 before going on a 6-0 Lion run, highlighted by a bucket from Darden, to narrow its deficit to 21-18. However, Southern responded and expanded its lead to 38-25 at halftime, and pulled away in the second half.
