Men's Basketball Falls Short at Prairie View

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team lost 67-54 to the Prairie View A&M Panthers Saturday night

Marcus Wallace led the Golden Lions (3-15, 2-4 SWAC) with eight points and three steals. Marquell Carter added 12 points and eight rebounds and Dequan Morris chipped in as well with nine points and two blocks.

Morris pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead the UAPB offense which grabbed eight boards and turned them into eight second chance points.

UAPB did a great job disrupting Prairie View A&M shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Morris' two rejections led the way individually for the Golden Lions.

After falling behind 17-10, UAPB went on a 5-0 run with 11:49 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Cameron Posey, to narrow its deficit to 17-15. Prairie View A&M answered back and added to its lead right before halftime, 35-28.

Coming out of intermission the Panthers jumped out fast before UAPB went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Wallace's three, to shrink the deficit to 62-52 with 1:50 to go in the contest, but it was not enough in the comeback. UAPB capitalized on nine Prairie View A&M turnovers in the period, collecting nine points off those turnovers.

"We cut the lead down to get back into the game, but we turned the ball over in crucial situation several times," said UAPB head coach George Ivory.  "But overall the effort was a lot better and we gave ourselves a chance to win against the top team in the league. One thing I'm proud of is our bench on how they came out in the second-half and battle.  It's a long season and once the pieces come together we're going to be alright".

The Golden Lions will face off against Texas Southern Monday at 7:30 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
