Senior Sarah Wright scored late in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and lift the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team to a 2-1 win over Alabama State Sunday at Pumphrey Stadium.
The Lady Hornets would strike first in the first half with a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. UAPB would answer back when junior Alexis Sanders blasted a free kick in the lower corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1 at the 43:15 mark. Wright came up big with less than 15 minutes left in the game, scoring the clutch goal through the goalkeeper's hands in the 77th mark from junior Clara Morales.
"The girls came out and played today," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer. "We had a disappointing outing on Friday, but we responded well today. We came in confident with one thing on our mind and that was winning. Even though we have a very young team, the future is bright here at UAPB."
UAPB will be back in action on the road Friday at Alcorn at 4 p.m.
