Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches At A-State Invitational

JONESBORO, Ark. - Despite strong rallying efforts in both contests of the opening day of the Arkansas State Invitational, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Volleyball lost both outings.
The Lady Lions fell to Rice 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 14-25) and Stephen F. Austin 3-0 (4-25, 14-25, 19-25).
 
"At times, we were doing some things right that were pretty positive for our group against two really good teams," said first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas, whose opponents today are a combined 16-1.  "We made some plays out the door, but we can't afford to make small mistakes where they took advantage of situations against us.  However, that's why we play these matches at this time of the year to get this experience for later on in the season."
 
Sophomore Kaila Robinson led UAPB in both matches with a total of 11 kills and 14 digs, followed by freshman Zyaire Garrit with eight kills and seven digs. Senior Micayala Pope dished out 21 assists for UAPB.    
 
The Lady Lions will be back in action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against host Arkansas State.  Saturday's match against the Red Wolves will be streamed live, with the link available at uapblionsroar.com.
