Soccer Falls to Green Bay

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team managed to get on the board late, but it was not enough in a 5-1 defeat to Green Bay Phoenix on Thursday at Pumphrey Stadium.

This was the final non-conference match before conference play.  The Lady Lions hung tough during the first 45 minutes of the game, trailing 2-0 at intermission.  The Phoenix went on to score one goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half before junior midfielder Alexis Sanders scored her second goal of the season in the 59th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Green Bay was able to score two more goals in the second half seal the victory over UAPB.

"The ladies competed well today," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer.  "We got out and fought against a good team.  We also got a chance to get some of our younger players in before we start conference play.  I think this two-week break will allow us to get everybody healthy and correct some mistakes we made today."

UAPB finished the game with six shots on the afternoon, led by Sanders with three shots and two shots on goals and one goal.  Freshman goalie Trinity Taylor had five saves.

UAPB will be back in action for their first conference game at home September 27, at 4 p.m. against Alabama A&M.
