FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team rallied to win the second set in four-set loss at Arkansas (13-25, 25-21, 13-25, 19-25) in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
"We fought hard but came up short in the execution phase of our game," said first-year UAPB head coach
Chelsey Lucas. "That said, I am really proud of how well this team is fighting to each point. Our ball control is going to put us in every match we play this year, and I am excited to see how our offense will improve."
Freshman
Zyaire Garrit and
Reagin Williams led UAPB with seven kills apiece, followed by freshman Zyonne Smith with five kills. Senior
Micayala Pope contributed 12 assists, along with sophomore
Kaila Robinson adding nine digs.
On the defensive side, Garrit led the Lady Lions with seven block assists, followed by sophomore
Haley Gomez with six.
The Lady Lions will return to action Friday in the Arkansas State Invitational, facing Rice at 10 a.m. and Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m.
