Golden Lions Close Out NCAA West Preliminary Round Action In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Ca. - Action at the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary Round competition came to a close Saturday night in Sacramento, California, with five members of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's track and field team competing on the third and final day of the meet being hosted at Sacramento State Track and Field Complex.

LONG RANGE
Senior Travis Bibbs competed in the triple jump on the final day of competition for UAPB in heat two, with a leap of 49'11", which placed 20^th overall out of 48 competitors. Bibbs, who was short of qualifying for nationals, graduates as the best triple jumper in UAPB history. Bibbs holds the record in the indoor (51'0") and outdoor (50'9") in the triple jump competition.

FAST RELAY
The men's 4x400 meter relay team (Malique Smith, Rodney Griffin, Laurel Heath, and Rasheed McAlpin) did not advance to the nationals finals in Austin, Texas, but combined to run 3:12.09 in the meet to finish 23^rd overall.

Griffin replaced Wade Garner as an alternate on the relay team, due to an injury that occurred on day one. As the season ends, it marks the third time in the last five years that UAPB men's program has won the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor 4x400 relay title under the leadership of Christopher McCoy.
