UAPB Softball Wins In Walk-Off Fashion Against Alabama St.

Pine Bluff, Ark. – Freshman Desiree Bumpers double to left center in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team to a dramatic 7-6 victory over Alabama St. in game one of a three-game series at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex Friday evening. 

Alabama St. jumped out fast and put one run on the board in the top of the second inning to start the game.  UAPB would answer back in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a runner on second with one out, when Kameron Graham stepped up to plate and hit a single to left field to score Ann Jones who reached earlier on a fielder choice.  Dominique Humphrey and Alexandria Taylor would single back to back to add one more run on the board before Bumpers would step up big with a single to center scoring two more runs for the Lady Lions to take a (4-1) lead.

Alabama St. would respond by scoring five runs in the next two innings to hold a two-point lead over UAPB (7-5) heading to the bottom of the seventh inning. 

In the bottom of the seventh Humphrey started the inning with a walk, followed by a single by Samantha Harris, moving Natalie Rogers who pinched ran for Humphrey to second base.  With one out and runners on first and second, Bumpers a true freshman double to center field scoring two runs to clinch game one.

Bumpers led the Lady Lions at the plate going 2-for-3 with four RBI, followed by Alexandria Taylor going 2-for-3, scoring two runs. Shanice Akins and Kameron Graham each had two hits apiece.

Juliana Dominguez and Karia Hall played a big part in the pitching duo for the win.  Dominguez finished the last three innings and picked up the win for UAPB, allowing only one run in 3.0 innings.  

UAPB and Alabama St will square off in a doubleheader beginning Saturday March 23rd at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
