UAPB Softball Fall Twice On Day One Of The Central Arkansas Invitational

Conway, Ark.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff team competed in day one of the Central Arkansas Invitational but fell to tournament host Central Arkansas 15-6  and Missouri St., 11-2 on Thursday in Conway, Arkansas. 

Game 1:  UCA 15  UAPB 6
UAPB (0-11) offense posted a combined five hits against the Sugar Bears (10-7) to combine for six runs.  Senior Shanice Akins led the Lady Lions going 2-of-3 with three RBIs, while Tamira Chatman, Ann Jones, AlexandriaTaylor, and Dominique Humphrey each had a hit apiece. 

The Lady Lions trailed 11-3 heading into the top half of the fourth inning.  UAPB cut the deficit in half to (11-6) when Desiree Bumpers walked, and advanced to second on a single bunt by Alexander Taylor, followed by Chatman reaching on a fielder error by the shortstop to load the bases.  Akins came up big and double down the right-field line to clear the bases, but UAPB fell short of the comeback.    

Game 2:  Missouri St. 11  UAPB 2
UAPB started out the gate fast when Chatman triple to left center and scored off an error by the third baseman.  UAPB (0-12) would go on to score one more run to take a (2-1) lead off another error by the Lady Bears (9-7)  before they would put up five runs in the third inning, two in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning. 

The Lady Lions will be back in action at the Central Arkansas Invitational Friday, March 1 at 9:00 AM as they will take on Coppin St.
