Golden Lions Softball Drop Pair at the Lady Demon Classic

Natchitoches, La. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon at the Lady Demon Classic. The Lady Lions were defeated by Northwestern St. 4-0 in their first game of the day and fell to Houston Baptist 9-2 in the second half of the twin bill.

Game 1 – Northwestern 4 UAPB 0: The Lady Lions (0-7) bats were slow getting around in game one, only producing one hit for the game.  Pre-season all-conference Juliana Dominguez started in the circle for the Lady Lions, giving up four earned runs to the Lady Demons (6-6) for the victory. 
 
Game 2- Houston Baptist 9 UAPB 2: In game two the Huskies (4-4) raced out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the third inning, before the Lady Lions got on the board with two straight singles by Aungelique Sargent and Natalie Rogers.  Junior Shanice Akins double to center field scoring Sargent and Samantha Harris single to the shortstop, scoring Rogers.

Akins led UAPB (0-8) at the plate going 3-of-4 at the plate with one RBI.  Senior Karia Hall went the distance on the mound going seven innings with three strikeouts, giving up five earned runs.

The softball team will return to action Sun. Feb 24 in a doubleheader matchup vs. Houston Baptist at 1:00 p.m. and Northwestern St. at 3:00 p.m.
