Lady Lions Put a Stop to Alcorn St.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Junior guard Noe'll Taylor delivered when it mattered the most for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team Monday night.
Taylor scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the second half, including four in the final 1:41, to help the Lady Lions put an end to their seven-game losing streak by beating the Lady Braves 66-57 at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Virginia native shot 8 of 18 from the field, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals for UAPB (5-15, 2-12 SWAC).  Taylor, though, had a great deal of help in taking down the Lady Braves for a second time.

Senior guard Kye Richardson scored 14 points and junior guard Atitiana Vincent finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.  In all, nine players scored for UAPB.

Junior guard Jada Hargrove had 14 points and senior guard De'Asia Brown ended with 12 for Alcorn State (4-21, 3-10), which couldn't build off last Saturday's victory over Mississippi Valley State. The Lady Braves were just 22-of-70 shooting and hit only 4 of their 20 three-point shots. UAPB fared a bit better, going 26 of 60 and knocking down 2 of their 4 three-pointers. The Lady Lions, though, nearly blew it by hitting just 12 of their 28 free-throw attempts, but UAPB had enough big plays in the fourth quarter to hold on in the end.

The Lady Lions will get another chance to improve its conference positioning Saturday when they travel to Texas Southern to face the Lady Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
