Men’s Basketball Fall to New Mexico St

LAS CRUCES, NM. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff dropped a 60-45 decision to New Mexico St. Wednesday night at the Pan American Center.

The Golden Lions got off to a slow start early going down 16-7 within the first 11 minutes of the game before junior Dequan Morris would answer with two straight baskets to cut the Aggies lead to five at 16-11.

The Aggies would respond and pushed its lead to double-digits at 29-15 as the first half ends at halftime.

After being down as many as 18 points in the second half, UAPB would go on a 12-3 run to cut the score 40-31 with 10:07 remaining in the game. A late run by New Mexico St. sealed the victory over UAPB.

"The guys played hard tonight, but we have to execute a little bit better to keep ourselves in the game," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. "We gave up a couple of three-pointers that gave them some cushion down the stretch, and that was a big difference in the game. But overall, I see a lot of improvements as we head closer to conference play."

Senior Marquell Carter and junior Markedric Bell led UAPB with eight points apiece and six rebounds, followed by Morris with eight points and three rebounds.

UAPB will be back in action Saturday against North Texas in Denton, Texas, at 5 p.m.
