WICHITA ST., KAN. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team dropped its Monday non-conference contest at Wichita St.100-50 at Charles Kocha Arena.
The Shockers got off to a fast start shooting 16-29 from the field at 55% compared to the Lady Lions shooting 7-28 at 25% and went into the locker room with a 57-23 lead at the half.
"Even though we didn't get the results we wanted, we had some players step up," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown. "Freshman Elise Joplin did a really good job defensively for us, contributing six points and three rebounds. She protected the ball, and made a few hustle plays down the stretch as we made a run in the third quarter with her being on the floor. Another player that stood out today was junior Sha'Kendra Tilley. We're trying to get her back in the sync of things coming off an injury from last season. Tilley is a leader on the floor and will give us a lot of quality minutes to free up some time for our guards."
Junior Jayla Atmore scored a team-high 10 of her 13 points in the first half, followed by seniors Kyeonia Harris with nine points and No'ell Taylor with eight points. Freshman Nissa Sam-Grant contributed a team-high 11 rebounds and five blocks.
UAPB will look to bounce back on Friday as the team head to Lubbock,TX., to take on Texas Tech at 7 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena.
