AIMES-IA.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell to Big 12 foe Iowa St. 90-40, Thursday night at the Hilton Coliseum.
The Lady Lions started the game with intensity. They jumped to an early a 3-2 lead with a three-pointer by junior Trasity Totten in the first two minutes of the game before the Lady Cyclones went on an 11-0 run to go into intermission with a 41-23 lead.
UAPB came out slow in the second half as Iowa St. used its height to its advantage in the paint to pull away.
"Iowa St. did a good job of playing four quarters of basketball," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown. "I think that we were off to a slow start coming out the box, but our team is still under emotional distress, and they are still feeling the pain of losing a teammate. This is a growing pain situation and transitional year for them. It's been a rough week for us, being on the road since Saturday, but being able to play two tough teams back to back will help us long term in the conference."
Ayia El Hassan led UAPB with 10 points and four rebounds, followed by freshman Tyler Pyburn with eight points and three rebounds, and senior Noe'll Taylor with six points and three rebounds.
UAPB will be back in action Wednesday as they travel to Pullman, WA., to face Washington St. at 9 p.m.
