Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls To No.23 Tennessee

In a very emotional night, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell at No. 23 Tennessee 92-51 Tuesday night inside the Thompson Boling Arena.

Fallen teammate Sierra'Li Wade was honored with a moment of silence prior to the game.

Tennessee came out shooting well from the paint and went on a 9-0 run in the first five minutes in the first quarter.  The Lady Vols would go on to shoot 53.7 percent from the field in the first half compared to UAPB 12.5 percent, as they would go into the half up, 48-11.

With a heavy heart, the Lady Lions came out with more energy and outscored the Lady Vols, 24-19 in the 3rd quarter, with junior Trasity Totten leading the way with seven points.

"I think the biggest thing was when we went into the locker room at the half, we talked to them and told the ladies to relax and be more comfortable," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown.  "I think emotions were high, and adrenaline was still running with the way the game started, it was heavy for us.  Once we were able to relax and have fun, we began to get going because that's the type of energy you're going to need to be successful on the court."

Totten scored a game-high 19 points for the Lady Lions, followed by junior Jayla Atmore with 12 points and freshman Tyler Pyburn with 11 points.  Totten and freshman Brit'Nee Terry had a team-high five rebounds.

UAPB will be back in action Friday, as they travel to Ames, IA. to face Iowa St. at  6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Coliseum.
