Men’s Basketball Falls To Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team fell to Pittsburgh 66-41 Thursday night at the Petersen Events Center in the Fort Myers Tip-Off contest.

The Golden Lions got off to a slow start as the Panthers jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, before UAPB roared back and cut the lead down to single digits at 17-9.  With Pittsburgh up at the half 31-18, the Lions responded, but it was not enough as the Panthers clinched a home victory.

"Overall, we battled tonight, but we can't afford to stay in the ball game with too many turnovers," said UAPB head basketball coach George Ivory.  "We had some guys step up, like junior Markedric Bell, who played a good game tonight, who's one of the players that we'll be counting on."

Bell had a game-high 21 points and a team-high six rebounds for UAPB, shooting 10-for-19 from the field.  Junior Dequan Morris added seven points, four rebounds, and two steals for the Golden Lions.

UAPB will be back in action for their home opener against Champion Christian, Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the H.O. Clemmons Arena. The game is a part of a Monday night doubleheader that begins with the Lions Roar All Access Radio Show in the Lecture Hall of the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

There is no admission charge to be a part of the live audience for the radio show or to attend the game. Listen live to the radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, or on the free UAPB Athletics App.
