Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Takes Down Champion Christian College In Home Opener

Pine Bluff native Dequan Morris returned home and had a career night of 23 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks helped the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to a 75-67 win over Champion Christian College on Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Golden Lions entered tonight's game coming off a five-game road trip, but we're glad to be home and raced out to a 23-14 lead before the Tigers start clawing back to tie the game at the half 33-33.

UAPB came out of the locker room in the second half and responded by going on an 18-0 run, with a layup by Morris from junior Jordan McNair with 14:59 left in the game. The Golden Lions held on the lead to seal the win at home.

"The guys came out a little sluggish in the first half," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. "We came out in the second half and got a big lead and got too excited, which caused too many turnovers, and we're too good of a team to make those mistakes. Morris stepped up big, being that's he's one of the most athletic guys in the conference.  He wanted to make an impression playing in front of his hometown."

Besides Morris leading the way for UAPB, junior Markedric Bell added his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

UAPB outscored Champion Christian College 42 to 14 in the paint and 63 to 48 from the bench.

The Golden Lions will be back in action Wednesday, Dec. 4, against Tulsa at 7 p.m.
